Ram chest of drawers

This asymmetrical sculptural piece challenges practical design and artistic expression. Crafted from locally sourced sustainable hardwoods, it features a bold contrast of materials that enhance its visual impact.

The frame and handles are made from ash, while the 3cm steam bent top and side panels, as well as the drawer fronts, are crafted from elm. Mortise and tenon joints, secured with elm pegs, add a touch of character.

The drawer handles, steam bent from 12mm ash and dovetailed into the elm drawer fronts, create a sculptural flow with their tight curves. An ash inlay on the drawer fronts gives the illusion that the handles have been peeled from the wood, adding a playful, innovative detail.

The drawers are constructed with solid oak sides for strength, cedar bottoms for natural moth resistance and a subtle fragrance, and are pegged with contrasting walnut. Completing the design, the back panel is made from solid chestnut, providing a durable and elegant finish.
