About Us
I was brought up on a Suffolk smallholding, and started out as a shepherd, which gave me a feel for nature around me.
Coming from an artistic background, the great storm of '87 inspired me to learn how to create pieces of furniture.
As I couldn't find an apprenticeship, I took a course in furniture making at a local college, which wasn't easy as I'm very dyslexic.
Now in my late 50's, I'm concerned with the environment, and plant hardwood trees here annually, as well as rewilding parts of the smallholding.
Steambending
My interest in steam bending started about 25 years ago. I've found this a fascinating process, and it's allowed me to develop my skills with great care, precision and dedication. Much of my work is quite sculptural, providing a stand alone piece for any room.
I used my steam bending skills with Jason Thawley's Tree Tent project on George Clark's Amazing Spaces on C4.
I have also exhibited for several years at the prestigious annual 'Celebration of Craftsmanship and Design' show in Cheltenham, and 3 of my steam bent pieces from these exhibitions were chosen to be in the book 'Bespoke' by Betty Norbury.
Local Sustainable Resources
Through my knowledge of local woods, the timber I use is of superior quality and is treated with respect from the tree trunk to the finished piece of furniture.
Traditional Techniques, Tools and Finishes
Wood seasoned on site is our greatest advantage, allowing customers to choose their preferred planks for unique furniture.
Each piece is crafted with solid joints, and finished with a blend of linseed oil and beeswax from our smallholding.
I've mastered traditional techniques that I apply in my work, creating furniture that stands the test of time, becoming a future family heirloom.
