Console table

Dylan designed and crafted this elegant, symmetrical side table to showcase the skill and precision involved in steam bending. Made from locally sourced, sustainable oak, the piece highlights both craftsmanship and material integrity.

At its centre, the orb and four curved supports are formed from a single rectangular block of oak. Initially cut into straight, rectangular sections, this piece was then steam bent to create its sweeping curves. Following this process, the supports and central orb were meticulously hand carved, giving the table its refined and sculptural quality.

Dylan also steam bent the sides of the table. This sense of movement is echoed in the drawer, whose sides have been carefully shaped to mirror the table’s curves. The drawer runners are concealed within the base, allowing the drawer to appear as though it rests effortlessly at the centre of the piece.

A hand-forged metal handle adds a subtle, tactile contrast, complementing the organic form of the wood.

The table is finished with linseed oil and a homemade oil-wax blend, created using beeswax sourced from the smallholding where the workshop is based, giving the piece a warm look.

Customers are encouraged to be involved in the design of their commissioned piece and also, where possible, to come to the workshop to choose their timber.
